2. Wear resistance: The steel must have good wear resistance in order to minimize wear caused by the constant movement of the rollers or balls. This extends the service life of the bearings and reduces maintenance intervals.
3. Toughness: Bearing steel must also have a high toughness in order to absorb sudden loads and shocks during operation without breaking or failing.
4. Uniform structure: A uniform and fine microstructure is important to ensure an even distribution of loads and high strength. This is usually referred to as carbide distribution.

Bearing steel is often produced using special alloys and heat treatments to achieve the desired properties.
