Bearing pedestal

A bearing pedestal, also known as a plummer block housing, is a type of bearing housing that is used in the mechanical and plant engineering industry. It is used to hold rolling bearings, which in turn support and move shafts. Plummer block housings are designed so that they can be mounted on a floor or other flat surface. They provide stability and protection for the bearings and are often made of robust material such as gray cast iron or ferrous cast iron.

Depending on the application and loads that are supported by a bearing arrangement with a bearing pedestal and a rolling bearing, there are different types of plummer block bearings. Spherical roller bearings are usually installed in the plummer block units. 

Most bearing blocks from different manufacturers are interchangeable. If you change the manufacturer, you should make sure that the center height (pedestal bearing), the center distance between the bolt holes and the diameter of the fastening screws are the same. 

Plastic plummer block housings are also available.

Plummer block housings made of plastic are used in various applications, especially where certain advantages such as low weight, corrosion resistance and good chemical resistance are required. Here are some typical areas of application:

  6. Medical technology: Here, too, they are useful due to their chemical resistance and the possibility of easy cleaning.
