Linear technology also includes the drive elements that provide the propulsion. These actuators are selected individually for the type of movement and power transmission required. The various drive types often require suitable gearboxes for the transmission. A planetary gearbox is often used here. 

To save design time, the linear guide and drive are always combined in a complete, ready-to-install system. Compliance with customer-specific parameters such as positioning accuracy, travel speed, repeat accuracy etc. is largely determined by the drive element.

The use of linear technology enables machines to carry out precise, guided longitudinal movements and, for example, to position a mass to be moved exactly. 

Just like bearings, which enable the rotary movement of components, linear technology is an essential part of industrial requirements.

Die Lastauf­nahme und Führung der zu bewegen­den Masse erfolgt über die verschie­dens­ten Linear­füh­run­gen die z.B. über eine Verbin­dungs­platte verbun­den einen Laufwa­gen oder Schlit­ten bilden. Auf Diesem kann dann die zu bewegende Masse montiert und bewegt werden.

The movement is carried out as energy-efficiently as possible thanks to the elements, which today are usually mounted in rolling element bearings. The rolling guide minimizes the force required for the movement. This means that even large masses can be moved with little effort and with high precision.

The closed design of complete systems makes them resistant to contamination and equipped with integrated long-term lubrication, low-maintenance or even maintenance-free.

The main areas of application for linear technology are main axes in machine tools, machines of all kinds such as production and conveyor systems, packaging machines, woodworking machines, sawing systems, measuring machines, machines in dental and medical technology, etc.
