Load rating

The load rating for rolling bearings is a key figure that indicates the axial and/or radial load carrying capacity of a bearing.

The load rating is usually specified by the bearing manufacturer in Newtons (N) or kilo Newtons (kn). It is often specified as the dynamic load rating and/or static load rating.

• Basic dynamic load rating: The basic dynamic load rating of a bearing indicates the maximum load that the bearing can support under dynamic conditions without premature failure. Dynamic conditions refer to situations in which the bearing moves or is subjected to load changes, such as in rotating machinery or moving systems. The dynamic load rating is normally expressed in newtons (N) or kilonewtons (kn).
• Basic static load rating: The basic static load rating of a bearing indicates the maximum load that the bearing can support under static conditions, i.e. when there is no movement or load change. This is important for applications where the bearing will be under constant load for long periods of time, such as in applications with static or slow moving parts. The static load rating is also given in newtons (N) or kilonewtons (kn).

It is important to note that the load rating does not correspond to the actual load capacity of the bearing, but serves as a comparative value between different bearings. When selecting a bearing for a particular application, other factors such as speed, operating environment, lubrication and service life must also be taken into account.
