Thickness is a decisive quality criterion in numerous production processes. It influences the accuracy of fit, stability and raw material use in the process. To ensure precise determination of thickness, measurement is carried out both inline and in the laboratory. Depending on the production process and product, specific requirements are placed on the measuring system to ensure maximum accuracy and reliability. - Problem of the customer
Our customer was faced with the challenge of optimizing its costs. For this purpose, specially turned measuring rollers were to give way to a cost-efficient solution. An alternative of identical design had to be found, which proved to be difficult. In addition, further components had to be procured and assembled for the spare parts requirement, which took a considerable amount of time.
- Solution approach
In the course of checking whether a rolling bearing could be used as a measuring roller, Fröhlich & Dörken identified a challenge. The outside surface of a standard rolling bearing is not suitable for this purpose. To overcome this hurdle, a special rolling bearing with the appropriate outer geometry had to be developed. - Solution
By using a standard deep groove ball bearing with a specially manufactured chamfer on the outer ring and a narrowed bearing clearance, an extremely effective and cost-efficient solution was found. Fröhlich & Dörken packaged the special bearing together with the matching screws and labeled it as a spare parts kit. - Customer benefit
We have found an innovative solution for our customer that is not only cost-efficient, but also minimizes the amount of work required. By using a special deep groove ball bearing instead of the expensive turned part, the customer saves money. In addition, we now offer the complete spare parts kit from a single source, which also saves time and money.
