Thickness is a decisive quality criterion in numerous production processes. It influences the accuracy of fit, stability and the use of raw materials in the process. To ensure precise determination of the thickness, measurement is carried out both inline and in the laboratory. Depending on the production process and product, specific requirements are placed on the measuring system to ensure maximum accuracy and reliability. - The customer's problem
Our customer was faced with the challenge of optimizing its costs. To achieve this, specially turned measuring rollers were to be replaced by a cost-efficient solution. An identical alternative had to be found, which proved to be difficult. In addition, further components had to be procured and assembled to meet the spare parts requirements, which took a considerable amount of time.
- Solution approach
Fröhlich & Dörken identified a challenge when checking whether a rolling bearing could be used as a measuring roller. The lateral surface of a standard rolling bearing is not suitable for this purpose. In order to overcome this hurdle, a special rolling bearing with a suitable external geometry had to be developed. - Solution
By using a standard deep groove ball bearing with a specially produced chamfer on the outer ring and a narrowed bearing clearance, an extremely effective and cost-effective solution was found. Fröhlich & Dörken packaged the special bearing together with the matching screws and labeled it as a spare parts kit. - Customer benefit
We have found an innovative solution for our customer that is not only cost-efficient, but also minimizes the amount of work involved. By using a special deep groove ball bearing instead of the expensive turned part, the customer saves money. In addition, we now offer the complete spare parts kit from a single source, which also saves time and money.
