Trolley

Carriages, also known as guide carriages, are machine components that run on associated guide rails. They have at least 2, 4 or more ball or roller recirculating units.

The combination of carriage and guide rail is referred to as a profile rail guide.

Schneeberger linear guides

This design is a classic rolling bearing specially designed for longitudinal movement. Due to the recirculation, it is a rolling bearing for unlimited stroke. The maximum possible stroke is only limited by the length of the rail.

The balls run in bevels, usually with a Gothic arch profile, and can therefore transmit high forces due to the large load-bearing surface. The rollers run on smooth surfaces. The line contact results in an even higher

load capacity. The rollers are usually slightly crowned in order to guide them better in the trolley body or the manufacturer uses a plastic chain.

This type of guide is used in a wide variety of machines. One of the main areas of application is machine tools. Other areas of application can be found in plant engineering for assembly machines in automation technology and robotics,

measurement technology, medical technology and many other areas. It ideally combines high load-bearing capacity and rigidity with the very high precision required in these applications.

Another type of carriage / guide carriage is the one with integrated rollers.

This combination of carriage and guide rail is referred to as a roller guide.

Roller guide

The inner construction of the track roller is usually a double angular contact ball bearing for load support from all 4 load directions. The reinforced outer ring of the track roller has a guide profile, which then runs on the profile of the guide rail.

There are 2 main systems here. Roller with Gothic arch profile, which runs on a shaft embedded in the guide rail or with 45°V-groove, which then runs on the 45°pointed profile of the rail.

This carriage roller design does not have the high load capacity and precision of carriages with rolling element recirculation.

A major advantage lies in the high possible discharge speeds that this "wheel design" offers compared to a recirculating rolling element design (chain).

This type of guide is mainly used in general mechanical engineering and in handling technology (handling systems). Classic applications include handling axes, machine door guides, assembly systems, etc.

One of the leading manufacturers in the field of linear technology is Schneeberger. We have been a Schneeberger dealer for many years. A must have for machine tools.
